UK Releases Updated Wheat Management Guide
Production supported by KySGGA

(7.15.09) The University of Kentucky has released an updated version of extension publication ID-125: A Comprehensive Guide to Wheat Management in Kentucky. KySGGA provided checkoff dollars to support the update and printing costs. The original publication was released about 10 years ago, also supported by KySGGA. KySGGA would like to thank Chad Lee, UK Extension Grain Specialist, for leading the project.

Printed copies will not be available for several weeks, but producers may view the publication online at http://www.ca.uky.edu/agc/pubs/id/id125/id125.htm

2009 Small Grains Variety Test Report
Released July 15, 2009

Kentucky Small Grain Variety Testing Program
The University of Kentucky Small Grain Variety Testing Program evaluates wheat and barley varieties that are commercially available or may soon be available to farmers. Annual variety performance testing provide farmers, seed producers, extension agents and consultants with current, unbiased information to help them select the varieties best adapted to their locality and individual requirements.

Kentucky Wheat Breeding Program
The primary objective of the soft red winter wheat breeding program at the University of Kentucky is to enhance the profitability of wheat production by developing and releasing improved wheat varieties. In Kentucky this means early maturity, lodging resistance, disease resistance, spring freeze tolerance, along with high yield and test weight are among the traits of interest.

Kentucky Climate Action Plan Council
The Commonwealth of Kentucky established the Kentucky Climate Action Plan Council (KCAPC) process to identify opportunities for Kentucky to respond to the challenge of global climate change while becoming more energy efficient, more energy independent, and spurring economic growth.
