What's Happening?

2022 Don Halcomb Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced

The Kentucky Small Grain Growers and Walnut Grove Farms are proud to announce the recipients of the Don Halcomb Memorial Scholarships for Community Leadership Through Agriculture. Two scholarships were offered for $1,000 each, one for a high school senior entering college, and one for a current college student in an undergraduate or graduate program. Applicants were required to be Kentucky residents and pursuing an agriculture or related field at any accredited college, university or trade school. Read about the recipients below and why they were chosen.

Grace Gough is graduating from Union County High School this spring and will attend Mississippi State University in the fall to study Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business. She has been gaining work experience through her family’s Case IH dealership and farm, as well as through her many leadership and volunteer activities. The scholarship selection committee appreciated her adventurous spirit and background of community service.  

 

Laney Erin Newton, from Caneyville, is a senior studying Agriculture at Western Kentucky University. Her goals are to continue schooling to earn a Master’s degree and then pursue a career in Extension as a county agent or agronomy research. The committee appreciated her work experience and her career aspirations that involve strengthening her community through Cooperative Extension.
