The National Wheat Foundation and the National Association of Wheat Growers recently announced new officers of their organizations, electing Kentucky farmers to top leadership positions.

The National Wheat Foundation serves as the national center for wheat research, education, and outreach. Bernard Peterson, of Peterson Farms in Loretto, KY, was elected chair of the nine-member Board of Directors on March 7. Peterson also serves on the Kentucky Small Grain Promotion Council.

Carl Schwinke, Vice President of Siemer Milling Company and a Kentucky Small Grain Growers Board of Directors member, was elected as a new board member of the National Wheat Foundation.

The National Association of Wheat Growers is the primary policy representative for wheat growers in Washington, D.C. On March 9, the board elected Pat Clements, a farmer and grain merchandiser from Springfield, KY, as their treasurer. Clements previously served as secretary and is currently chair of the Kentucky Small Grain Promotion Council.

Also serving on NAWG committees from Kentucky are Sam Halcomb, of Walnut Grove Farms in Schochoh, and Jason Head, of Long Vue Farms in Allensville. Halcomb serves on the Domestic and Trade Policy Committee, and Head serves on the Environmental and Research Committee.

The Kentucky Small Grain Growers Association and Kentucky Small Grain Promotion Council would like to thank our farm leaders for representing Kentucky’s wheat industry at the national level.
